The side effects of KZ cream are as follows

• Skin Peeling: Some skin infections can worsen and require strong medication. Self-treatment might cause issues, such as the skin peeling off after applying KZ cream.  
• Application Site Redness: Normally, redness occurs on infectious skin. But if it comes after applying the cream, and notably, if it is not even curing the problem, site redness could be a potential cause of something bad.
• Vomiting: The composition of the cream carries such ingredients that, when absorbed by the body may cause unwanted reactions, and vomiting is one.
• Abdominal Pain: It is possible that abdominal pain may occur if the cream is accidentally swallowed, but it can also be caused by a chemical reaction.
• Itching: Itchiness on the skin is normal, but abnormal itching post applying the KZ cream can raise concern.
• Application site burning: A burning sensation on the application site is another potential side effect of KZ cream, and you should avoid the cream immediately.

Managing the Side effects

• Skin peeling: Apply a gentle moisturiser to keep the skin hydrated and prevent excessive dryness. Avoid scrubbing or exfoliating the affected area and protect it from harsh weather conditions.
• Application site redness: Use a cold compress or ice pack wrapped in a cloth to reduce redness and inflammation. Avoid scratching or rubbing the area, and consider using a soothing, non-irritating moisturiser.
• Vomiting: Stay hydrated by sipping on clear fluids like water, ginger ale, or herbal teas. Eat small, bland meals and avoid spicy or greasy foods. If vomiting persists or worsens, seek medical advice immediately.
• Abdominal Pain: Rest and apply a warm compress on the abdomen to alleviate discomfort. Avoid eating heavy or fatty meals and consider over-the-counter antacids or pain relievers as directed by a healthcare professional. If the pain persists or worsens, consult a doctor.
• Itching: Gently cleanse the affected area with mild, fragrance-free soap and lukewarm water. Apply a soothing, fragrance-free moisturiser to relieve itching. Avoid scratching to prevent further irritation.
• Application site burning: Discontinue the use of KZ Cream if the burning sensation is severe or intolerable. Rinse the affected area with cool water and apply a gentle, fragrance-free moisturiser. Consult a healthcare professional for alternative treatment options.

Precautions

Pregnancy

Women who are pregnant or apparently became a mother should exercise caution when using KZ cream and should not use it without consulting a doctor.

Breastfeeding

If you are a breastfeeding mother, it's crucial to inform your doctor immediately upon noticing any unusual changes on your face or experiencing pain or itching after using KZ cream. It's always best to consult a doctor before using KZ cream.

Alcohol

Patients who are using KZ cream should refrain from consuming alcohol for optimal results and to prevent accidental exposure of the cream to unintended body parts.

Liver

Liver damage is a potential side effect of Ketoconazole and can be severe enough to necessitate a liver transplant or lead to death, even if the person does not have any existing liver disease or conditions that might increase their susceptibility to liver damage.

Kidney

Be aware that the active ingredient in KZ cream, ketoconazole, can be excreted through the kidneys and may cause kidney damage if used in excessive amounts or for prolonged periods.

Using machines and driving

If you plan to drive or are about to use a machine, avoid applying the cream on visible areas that will stay exposed to dust, dirt, and chemicals from the machines or vehicles. Doing so will make the area susceptible to germ and bacteria build-up on the skin.

Allergy

Some patients may experience allergic reactions after applying KZ cream. It is critical to monitor your dosage daily and consult with your physician if you experience any unusual symptoms.

Use in children

Although KZ cream is commonly used to treat bacterial skin infections, parents should contact a doctor immediately if their child's eyes accidentally come into contact with the cream or if rashes and redness appear on the skin.

Use in older patients

• Corticosteroids: Using KZ cream along with Corticosteroids like Hydrocortisone, Betamethasone, and Triamcinolone can increase the risk of side effects, such as thinning of the skin, easy bruising, and slow wound healing. Hence, it is advisable to use KZ cream cautiously with corticosteroids. 
• Other topical medications: Using KZ cream along with other topical medications may increase the absorption of the active ingredients and lead to an increased risk of side effects. Hence, it is advisable to use other topical medications at least 30 minutes before or after applying KZ cream.

Drug-Food Interactions

• No significant drug-food interactions have been reported with KZ cream.

Examples of medications that can cause QT prolongation include certain antibiotics, antipsychotics, and antidepressants.
• Achlorhydria: Achlorhydria is a condition where the stomach does not produce enough acid. This can affect the absorption and effectiveness of certain medications, especially those that require an acidic environment for absorption. Examples of medications that can be affected by achlorhydria include antibiotics, antifungal agents, and proton pump inhibitors.
• Adrenal insufficiency: Adrenal insufficiency is a condition where the adrenal glands do not produce enough hormones, leading to a range of symptoms. Certain medications can affect adrenal function, especially if used long-term or in high doses.
