Omez D 30/20 MG Capsule Sr 15

Omez D capsules can cause side effects like all medicines, although not everybody gets them. The following are common side effects which may happen with the Omez D capsules. 

• Diarrhoea - It is characterised by loose, watery motions. Excessive or severe diarrhoea may lead to loss of salts from the body and cause weakness. The duration of diarrhoea may indicate the severity of a condition. 
• Headache - Headaches are common side effects of this medicine. It occurs due to interactions of signals arising among the brain and interaction with nerves and blood vessels. 
• Flatulence - The filling up of excessive air in the digestive tract is flatulence. Gas formation and indigestion can be common side effects of certain medicines.
• Nausea and vomiting - Nausea due to medicines, including Omez D capsules, is a common side effect and usually goes away on its own. Vomiting helps expel stomach contents and can have a protective effect. But, if the vomit persists, visit the doctor for further guidance. 

Managing the side effects 

• Diarrhoea - To manage diarrhoea, drink plenty of fluids at regular intervals; ginger lemon juice and lemon juice will give some relaxing and energising effects.
• Headache - To manage headaches, apply a headache pain balm, lie down and relax for a while or walk for fresh air
• Flatulence - It can be managed by cutting back on foods that produce gas, avoiding carbonated beverages, eating slowly and chewing food nicely. 
• Nausea and vomiting - Nausea can be handled by chewing gum, drinking clear fluids and ice-cold drinks, as well as opting for light and bland foods. Vomit can be managed by having fresh fruit juices and popsicles. If the symptoms do not improve, then consult your doctor.

Precautions 

Pregnancy 

No adequate well-controlled studies are available for Omez D or fixed combinations of omeprazole and domperidone during pregnancy. Thus, it is recommended that Omez D be used with caution and only if needed during pregnancy. 

Breastfeeding

Omez D is secreted in breast milk; hence not recommended while breastfeeding. Also, a decision has to be made whether to discontinue nursing or discontinue the medicine considering the benefit of medicine to the mother. 

Alcohol 

Consumption of alcohol with Omez D should be done with caution and care. Consult your doctor for guidance. 

Liver 

The mild hepatic failure or disorder does not require any changes from the regular recommended dose. But, in case of moderate to severe hepatic disorder or diseases, 

dose adjustment may be required. Consult your doctor for further advice.

Kidney 

Omez D can be administered as such without any changes in a mild form of renal impairment/disease. But caution and care are needed when Omez D is indicated in moderate to severe forms of renal impairment.

Using machines and driving 

Dizziness and visual disabilities are rare with the Omez D. But if you face any such difficulty, do not engage in work or drive. Consult your doctor if the symptoms worsen or persist. 

Allergy 

If you are allergic to any of the constituents of Omez D, then avoid taking it. If you experience allergic reactions while taking the medication, do not continue it. Consult your doctor for further guidance. 

Use in children 

The safety and efficacy of Omez D are not established for children. Thus, Omez D is not recommended for children.

Use in older patients

There were minimal to no overall differences in the safety and efficacy of Omez D while comparing older patients and adults. No dosage adjustment is necessary for older patients while taking Omez D. But it’s always recommended to consult a doctor before taking any medications.

Interactions 

Drug-drug interaction 

Omez D can interact with the following medications. 

• Omeprazole in Omez D may interfere with the antiretroviral medicines. It decreases the concentration of atazanavir and nelfinavir. And increases concentrations of saquinavir. 
• It may interfere with the drugs which are affected by gastric pHs, like ketoconazole, iron salts, erlotinib, digoxin, and mycophenolate mofetil.
• It may interfere with the drugs extensively metabolised in the liver, like warfarin, clopidogrel, diazepam, phenytoin, cilostazol, cisapride, voriconazole, and rifampicin. 
• It may interfere with the activity and concentration of simultaneous administration of some medicines like tacrolimus and methotrexate.
• Domperidone in Omez D may interfere with the activity and concentration of simultaneous administration of some medicines like QtC prolonging medicines, for example, antifungal agents, antidepressants and antihistamines.
• It may interact with other hepatic enzyme inhibitors like systemic azole antifungals, protease inhibitors, and macrolides.
• Drugs, like diltiazem and verapamil, should not be taken with domperidone.
• A few drugs, like those that induce slow heartbeat, cause low potassium levels, azithromycin and roxithromycin, should be taken cautiously. 

Drug-food interaction 

• The St John’s wort can interact with Omez D capsules: St John’s wort may induce the activity of the hepatic enzyme; hence, avoid using Omez D with st john’s wort. 

Drug-disease interactions

Omez D can interact with diseases, including 

• Epilepsy 
• Mania 
• Difficile-induced diarrhoea 
• Liver disorders/diseases 
• Low levels of magnesium
